ISO10667 Benefits and implications. An ISO standard for Human Resources is now a reality. The initiative of the German Certification Institute (DIN) became a reality with the publication of the ISO10667 Assessment Service Delivery standard by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in October 2011. Last February, the first organization in Spain obtained certification under this standard, implemented in collaboration with PSICOTEC and audited by AENOR.
If you haven’t heard of this standard before, or if you knew about it but hadn’t paid much attention to it, here are 10 reasons to take it to the next level:
ISO10667 Benefits for your organization
- ENSURES LEGAL COMPLIANCE: Implementing assessments within an organization involves managing information that is subject to numerous legal regulations, including equality, non-discrimination, confidentiality, and data protection. ISO implements traceable procedures that guarantee fair and confidential treatment and data management in accordance with current legal regulations.
- GUARANTEES OBJECTIVITY: If you make decisions about employees (e.g., hiring, firing, promoting, etc.) based on the results of an assessment, then this standard will be very useful to you in the event that any of these decisions are challenged (e.g., works council, unions, labor court, employees, etc.).
- REDUCES BUREAUCRACY: ISO requires clearly defined assessment objectives in order to identify only those methodologies and instruments that will provide relevant information, reducing assessment times and optimizing the quality of information obtained. Never again use instruments or procedures that contribute little to achieving objectives.
- INCREASES ACCURACY: By standardizing assessment procedures, you reduce inaccuracies and evaluator bias, increasing the quality of your results and their predictive power.
- PROVIDES TRACEABILITY AND COLLECTS KPIs: Establishes a standardized and formal evaluation procedure with an indicator recording system, which makes it easy to analyze evaluation processes retrospectively, establish efficiency ratios, detect deviations, and implement opportunities for improvement.
- INTEGRATES EVALUATION INTO THE BUSINESS: Evaluating people is not the sole responsibility of Human Resources, but rather part of an integrated process within an organization. ISO defines the responsibilities and rights of each of the stakeholders in the process, including managers (who request an assessment), directors (who make decisions based on the results), data administrators (LOPD), assessors, and participants, among others.
- CLEARLY DEFINES TERMS AND CONCEPTS: Establish a common language for evaluation processes within an organization. This allows the organization to use terms accurately and clearly establish its needs, as well as the assessment of its results.
- INCREASES CONFIDENCE IN EVALUATIONS: It is a reality that there is widespread mistrust regarding evaluation processes in the workplace. The implementation of these international best practices ensures greater quality, accuracy, and appreciation of the benefits that evaluations bring to the organization, increasing stakeholder confidence in them.
- STRENGTHENS THE EMPLOYER BRAND IMAGE: ISO10667 certification conveys an image of professionalism and objectivity by defining objective and fair assessment procedures, which strengthens interest in participating in a selection process such as joining an organization that upholds these values.
- COST REDUCTION: In conclusion, this process improvement leads to a reduction in the costs of evaluation processes, due to improved efficiency and a reduction in possible subsequent deviations (e.g., poor promotion or hiring decisions, legal non-compliance, etc.).

We cannot deny that ISO 10667 is still in its infancy, having been published internationally just over a year ago. But the fact that it is already delivering so many benefits in such a short time shows us that it has a long way to go. In Human Resources, it is time to demonstrate with tangible facts and precision the value we bring to the organization, and ISO 10667 is an excellent step in that direction.
