Our colleague Mar Payet, from Psicotec Catalunya, collaborates as a Volunteer Tutor in the initiative promoted by the Spanish Volunteering Platform, VOL+, a seal with which volunteers can enrich their CV or prove, when applying for a job, the knowledge and experience they have acquired when carrying out the solidarity task.
How did the idea of participating as a Tutor in VOL+ come about?
MP: I had read about the volunteer program in which Psicotec is involved. I found it very interesting and I wanted to be part of it. It didn’t require much time, it could be of help and surely it could take me a good experience, so I wanted to join him; why not?
What exactly does being a Tutor consist of?
MP: The objective is to evaluate the competencies that a person who
he has already been a volunteer at Save the Children. It means having two Skype meetings; a first contact to present the programme and a second evaluation meeting, of which a brief report is made.
What are the results for the person being tutored?
MP: This evaluation helps the tutored person to obtain a certificate at the end of it that validates that they have acquired, through their experience as a volunteer, certain skills that are very valid for the world of work. This recognition will help you in your job placement.
And for you as a tutor?
MP: For me it has been a learning opportunity, because you really learn a lot from the other person. It is also very gratifying, anyone who has participated in volunteering will have said this word. It’s true, it is, because the volunteer himself thanks you for your help.
How would you rate this experience?
MP: Without a doubt, very positive. It is a brief experience but you give a lot of help and reward you. I know they currently need more volunteers, so I encourage you to try the experience! I will most likely repeat.
