This fact has meant that, on many occasions, we do not pay attention to these communications or simply receive them in a transversal way. And it is that there is so much information that reaches us day by day, that for it to hook it has to be presented in a completely different way. Otherwise, we end up ignoring the information, with the consequent frustration that this entails for those who originate and try to send us their story.

We live in the seven-second era; that is, we have seven seconds to capture the interest of our audiences, impact them and generate empathy. In addition, we must be able to connect with the interlocutor from three different levels: the level of intuition, the emotional and the rational.

Real or pure fiction for brands competing to capture the interest of their audience?

Marketers have learned that the hero of their stories should be the person listening, and not their own company, and that it is important to get and encourage the listener to feel identified with the message, to feel the story as their own and, in this way, to meet the company’s objective: to share it and retell it. In short, that they become prescribers.

An example of a well-told story is this original and avant-garde version of the Cinderella tale, which we want to share with you:

But is communication just a weapon for marketers? What happens to the rest of the departments of a company when communication is internal? What happens when circulars that are sent internally are not read but scanned? Or when projects and measures are launched with the aim of improving and motivating our teams and achieving greater involvement, and we realise that no one has felt part of or being the object of those projects? Again we feel frustrated.

So, what can we do to capture the attention of our audience? That audience that is still colleagues who are part of the same boat and who, probably, suffer on many occasions the same concern of not feeling heard. The key is to learn to manage the attention economy by using the communicative tools that are at our disposal in an innovative, original, but above all fun way (humour engages, and it is a fact).
Within our company we must arouse the same interest, or more, than the one we want to generate with our customers. You have to involve the whole team, that they feel an important part of the story, that they feel identified and that the ordinary is perceived as something extraordinary. The difference between work and personal life is getting smaller every day, it is becoming more and more united. The emotion of a story provokes people’s action. In the case of an organization, people have to feel emotionally involved, sharing values so that they act and, above all, to generate involvement and commitment to corporate objectives.

A well-known example, but one that never ceases to move us every time we see it, is the famous video of the Heineken candidate. It obtained more than 35 million views and became a perfect example of viral marketing and the involvement of an entire organization in the same goal: to get the perfect partner.

And colorín colorado, this story is over… or not.

Vanessa Hernanz

Director of Training and Development at Psicotec

Once upon a time… We have heard and read this principle of a story on countless occasions and it always has the same purpose: to hook us to a story with which we will probably end up feeling identified.
